HERIFORGE supported the workshop Digital Hellenic Studies 2026 Institute, “Historic Athens in 3D”, co-organised by the The Center for Digital Humanities at Princeton University / Athens University of Economics and Business, hosted by the Princeton Athens Center for Research and Hellenic Studies and facilitated by DARIAH ERIC.

The use of interactive visualization tools and DH methods to tell stories about inaccessible cultural heritage and to offer alternative views of history while addressing key challenges of data integration and interoperability, lies at the core of HERIFORGE.

Associate Professor Georgios Artopoulos introduced the workshop participants to an integrated 3D and AI supported FAIR data workflow that enabled them to develop unexpected views of the history of Athens’ lost neighborhood of Vrysaki. HERIFORGE researcher Michalis Karamichalis contributed to the workshop with web 3D solutions and cloud support.
